Eurointegration of the Pharmaceutical Market Requires Predictable Rules and Financial Support — Darnytsia
The Ukrainian pharmaceutical industry is undergoing a period of significant changes related to eurointegration and the introduction of new regulatory requirements. Government Relations Director at Darnytsia, Kostiantyn Vashchenko, outlined the main challenges and essential conditions for successful harmonization with European legislation during the regional dialogue "Business and Government: European Integration of the Pharmaceutical Industry" and the National Forum "Healthy Ukraine 2030" in Zakarpattia.
The Ukrainian pharmaceutical market is currently seeing the implementation of the new Law "On Medicinal Products," the adoption of EU directives, as well as modern regulatory and registration procedures. According to Kostiantyn Vashchenko, this process requires manufacturers to make substantial investments in production capacities, improvement of product quality, digital solutions, documentation updates, and research activities.
At the same time, industry transformation is taking place amidst wartime and limited access to financing, which adds further pressure on manufacturers.
During his remarks, Government Relations Director at Darnytsia identified three key needs for effective harmonization of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector with European requirements. These include: predictability and realism of rules and transitional models, expanded access to financial instruments (such as international loans, guarantee mechanisms, and transformation support programs), as well as fostering the development of new competencies in accordance with EU standards.
Darnytsia emphasizes that harmonization opens new opportunities for Ukraine, including access to European supply chains, new markets, and integration into EU pharmaceutical safety programs.
Darnytsia supports a partnership model of integration which, according to Kostiantyn Vashchenko, should ensure the modernization of Ukrainian pharmaceuticals without losing competitiveness and spur the development of the sector within the European pharmaceutical space.
