Darnitsa Will Purchase Equipment for the National Cancer Institute within the Framework of the Giving Tuesday Initiative
Pharmaceutical Firm “Darnitsa” joined the All-Ukrainian Good Deeds Day “Giving Tuesday” and raised funds to purchase equipment for the children’s unit of the National Cancer Institute.
To support the Giving Tuesday initiative, Darnitsa created a web-site, for each visit to which it allocated UAH 1 to purchase equipment for the children’s unit of the National Cancer Institute. Within a week of its operation 196,754 visits to the web-site were registered, thus the company will transfer the relevant amount as financial assistance. These funds will be used to purchase A thoracoscope which is necessary for low trauma diagnosis and treatment of thoracic disorders.
Oleh Bilokon, Board Certified Physician of the children’s unit of the National Cancer Institute:
“At the present stage of development of medicine and in particular thoracic surgery, more sparing methods of diagnosis and treatment are implemented. One of those methods is thorascopy. This method makes it possible to perform surgeries in children in the thoracic cavity without using large cuts. In the postoperative period, undesired effects of the surgery are reduced: the pain syndrome is considerably decreased, the duration of the postoperative period is reduced.”
According to him, up to 50 operative interventions on organs of the thoracic cavity and interpleural space are performed in the Pediatric Oncology Unit within a year. Half of those children are under 10 years old.
Andrii Obrizan, General Director of Darnitsa:
“We are a responsible business and consider it necessary to actively cooperate with the society and help in solving acute social problems. In particular, to make modern therapy methods, such as thoracic diagnosis and treatment, available to Ukrainian patients. A thoracoscope will make it possible to perform minimally invasive interventions that can reduce the severity of postoperative pain and speed up the recovery of small patients. With our own example, we want to encourage Ukrainians to be caring.”
Darnitsa team joined the fundraiser to purchase the thoracoscope. Employees organized an online charity auction. The skills and abilities they are ready to share with their colleagues were the lots. As a result, the amount of more than UAH 37,000 hryvnias was raised, which will be donated to the children's unit of the National Cancer Institute.
Darnitsa, like Ukraine as a whole, participates in the #GivingTuesday charity movement for the second time. Every year, Giving Tuesday is held after Thanksgiving Day in more than 150 countries. It is joined by millions of participants - from large corporations to non-profit organizations and individual philanthropists. The purpose of the movement is to make good deeds a useful habit for Ukrainians: to unite all people involved in charity in any form and to inspire others to join.
