Darnitsa Held a Webinar on Hemotransfusion Amidst Combat Actions for Physicians with International Participation

27 June 2022

Darnitsa Pharmaceutical Company continues organizing educational events for physicians on provision of medical care amidst combat actions. This time the webinar covered the utterly important topic - transfusion of whole blood at the pre-hospital stage in case of massive blood loss. Until recently, the best anesthesiologists in Ukraine fought for this approach, and now the Order of the Ministry of Health No. 418 has approved such possibility. Therefore, in order to widely implement this approach, it is important to disseminate the best world experience.

On June 22, this kind of experience was shared with Ukrainian physicians by Professor Rom Stevens, who served as the Medical Service Officer of the US Navy for 36 years and has the experience of more than 30 years in hotspots of Iraq, Afghanistan and East Africa. Doctor Stevens pays particular attention to regional anesthesia, treatment of injuries, blood transfusions and evacuation of the wounded.

“We hope that our experience will help Ukrainian physicians to acquire the necessary skills as soon as possible, so that there are as few deaths that could be avoided as possible. Many medical innovations come from the experience of war, which are later applied in civilian medical practice. Even in the United States, many hospitals have not yet adapted the basic principles of blood transfusion, which we will talk about today. So you will be ahead of the whole vplanet,” said Rom Stevens during the broadcast.

He also emphasized that it is a great honor for him to be in Lviv at this critical time, when the Ukrainian people are waging an existential fight for survival and defending democracy in Europe.

More than 1,500 physicians attended the live broadcast, which once again emphasizes the importance of this topic and the need in sharing international experience for physicians in Ukraine.
