With the Support of Darnytsia, an Interactive Map of Kyiv Dedicated to the Sixtiers Was Presented at the Ukraine WOW Exhibition
Visitors can discover the places where the Sixtiers gathered and created, view unique archival photos and materials about Vasyl Stus, Alla Horska, Mykola Vingranovsky, Ivan Svitlychny, and Vyacheslav Chornovil— this and much more is available at the interactive Ukraine WOW exhibition, now open at the Central Railway Station in Kyiv. One of the project’s partners is Darnytsia, the Pharmaceutical Company that supported the creation of the interactive Sixtiers zone.
The resilience and principled nature of the Sixtiers, along with their struggle for independence and the development of all things Ukrainian, is closely aligned with our team’s values. Darnytsia, with its nearly century-long history, has traversed crucial stages of Ukraine’s development alongside the country.
For the Darnytsia team, presenting such a stand is a special honor: we firmly believe that the resilience, principles, and quest for freedom shown by the figures of the 1960s deeply reflect our philosophy. Today, Darnytsia stands for the independence of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market, patients’ rights to high-quality choices, and openness to new ideas and partnerships.
Darnytsia is the largest pharmaceutical manufacturer in Ukraine, exporting products to dozens of countries worldwide. We are happy to be partners of the Ukraine WOW exhibition, because we share the goal that every Ukrainian can proudly say, "This is ours."
The installation about the Sixtiers is located in the "Artists" zone. Overall, Ukraine WOW consists of five thematic sections: "Land," "Rulers/Warriors," "Thinkers," "Artists," and "Heirs." More than one hundred exhibits and dozens of interactive experiences are presented here:
• the saber of Ivan Mazepa, a sword from Kyivan Rus, Cossack cups and the hetman’s mace;
• original ancient printed books referencing Ukraine—from Beauplan (1651) to Marshall (1772);
• the train car where the preliminary agreement of unification between the UNR and ZUNR was signed;
• replicas of the golden pectoral and the Peresopnytsia Gospel;
• a replica of a 20-meter Cossack boat (chaika);
• major Ukrainian WOW moments of independence, such as Andriy Shevchenko’s Ballon d’Or, Eurovision trophies won for Ukraine by Ruslana, Jamala, and Kalush Orchestra, a Pulitzer Prize, a BAFTA award for the film "Rock, Paper, Scissors" starring Oleksandr Rudinsky, a FROLOV dress created for Sabrina Carpenter’s performance, and a hat by Ruslan Baginsky made for Madonna's tour;
• VR experiences that let you fly over the Carpathians, Bakota, the pink lakes of Syvash, immerse yourself on stage in the new musical "Rebellion" by MUR;
• a recreated house of Polina Rayko and a seven-meter set design from the play "The Witch of Konotop."
"Ukraine WOW was first held at the railway station in 2019 and became the most popular exhibition in independent Ukraine’s history. In just three and a half months, it was visited by 333,000 people; it closed only due to the COVID pandemic. We've waited six long years to rethink and reopen this project," say Ukraine WOW founders Yaroslava Gres and Yulia Solovey. "Not every Ukrainian family can boast a large material heritage. Sometimes it’s just a few mementos from grandparents; the rest was scattered by the winds of wars and revolutions, terror and resettlement. That’s why our shared heritage is even more important. There’s enough for everyone, because spiritual values only multiply as more people share them. We want every visitor to feel connected to Ukraine's outstanding figures and proud of how, even in a time of great war, WOW moments are still happening. WOW is a verb we all bring to life."
A team of over 300 people worked on the project. Exhibits were provided by museums and private collectors. From every ticket sold, 50 hryvnias will be donated to support the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky, the Museum of Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Scientific and Natural Museum at the National Academy of Sciences, the Cherkasy City Archaeological Museum of Central Nadnipryanshchyna, the National Museum of History of Ukraine, and the Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum named after V.V. Tarnovsky.
