The Zagoriy Foundation and Darnitsa Supported the Ukrainian Catholic University
Despite this year’s challenges, the Charitable Event of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) was held on December 3. The Zagoriy Foundation and Darnitsa Pharmaceutical Company traditionally provided financial support to the UCU, this time for the amount of UAH 4.2 mln.
The event started with the intellectual discussion on the topic “Keys to the Transformation of Ukraine”, one of the participants was Kateryna Zagoriy, the co-founder of the family charitable foundation Zagoriy Foundation, UCU senator, Ukrainian philanthropist. After that, silent and live auctions took place in the intimate atmosphere of the shelter hall in Kyiv.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds to establish named scholarships, support the UCU Volunteer Center for helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and fill the UCU Heroes’ Memory Fund.
During the 8 months of the full-scale war, the University Volunteer Center for helping the Armed Forces and people in the frontline areas raised $4.58 million, which was allocated for the purchase of medical supplies, support of military hospitals, assistance to displaced persons, purchase of protective and safety equipment for our soldiers, delivery of food to frontline and liberated territories.
Unfortunately, twelve Heroes of the UCU paid the greatest price for our freedom – their lives. To perpetuate the memory of the fallen soldiers, the university established two named scholarship funds: in the honor of the UCU graduate Artem Dymyd and the UCU Business School student Oleh Vorobiov. The purpose is to create a permanent fund that will generate income and make it possible to cover tuition fees for students every year.
“Darnitsa Pharmaceutical Company has been helping the Ukrainian Catholic University for 7 years. It is extremely important to think about the future today. And the future is in the youth. This generation will face the task of rebuilding the country, strengthening its democratic traditions, making it strong and ready for any challenges,” Vasyl Hubarets, Darnitsa’s Corporate Communications Director, emphasized.
“The Zagoriy Foundation believes that sustainability is important even in such turbulent times for Ukraine. Right now, we are shaping and building the future. The Ukrainian Catholic University educates those who will create our tomorrow. And the Zagoriy Foundation strives to nurture and support the institution which is a model of education in Ukraine and abroad,” Yevhenia Mazurenko, Director of the Zagoriy Foundation, says.
The Ukrainian Catholic University inherited and continues the research activities of the Greek Catholic Theological Academy, which was established in 1928-1929 in Lviv by Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.
“This year, due to hostilities, we hesitated whether to organize our traditional meeting in Kyiv, but numerous conversations with our benefactors gave us an understanding – there is a need for a live meeting to support each other. I thank everyone who participated, because this is how you invest in the formation of our talented youth, Ukrainian education and the whole Ukraine in global terms,” Fr. Bohdan Prakh, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, thanked the benefactors.
